Hotel Lift in Bhagalpur: Lifts for Guests, Housekeeping and the Kitchen

Which lifts a Bhagalpur hotel or guest house really needs, how to size them for bags and carts, and who answers when one stops at night.

A hotel lift in Bhagalpur has a harder job than a lift in an office of the same height. It carries guests with suitcases, housekeeping carts, room-service trays and, on wedding nights, a hall full of visitors heading for the banquet floor. Eldeal Engineers plans, installs and maintains hotel elevators from its branch on the 5th Floor of Shree Ram Tower, Gosala Road, so the people who design your lift are also the people who service it.

Bhagalpur is the main trading and medical centre of eastern Bihar. Hotels and guest houses here host silk and textile buyers, families visiting patients, students arriving for exams and wedding parties. Many of these properties stand on compact plots, with the kitchen on one floor and the restaurant or hall on another. So before asking which lift to buy, list what has to move through the building, and at what hours.

Guests, housekeeping and the kitchen: who shares the shaft?

What movesRight equipmentTypical size (indicative)Why it deserves its own route
Guests and their luggagePassenger lift with automatic doors8–13 persons for most mid-size hotels; 13–16 where a banquet floor is servedThe wait and the ride are part of the guest's opinion of the hotel
Linen, housekeeping carts, crockery crates, gas cylinders, wasteService lift with a plain, tough carDecided by your biggest cartCarts scratch panels and block the lobby at check-out time
Food trays and used platesDumbwaiter between kitchen and pantry50–100 kg at counter heightFood reaches the table hot, and the guest car does not smell of it

A small guest house can manage with one passenger lift plus a dumbwaiter. Once a property has a restaurant, a hall and several floors of rooms, a second lift at the back of house stops being a luxury.

Planning a hotel lift in Bhagalpur around luggage and trolleys

Capacity plates count people. Hotels move objects. Before a car size is fixed, we ask you to measure four things:

  • The luggage trolley your bell staff use, with bags stacked on it.
  • The housekeeping cart, including the linen bag that hangs off the end.
  • The largest banquet item that travels by lift, such as folded round tables or stacked chairs.
  • A wheelchair with a helper, for elderly guests and wedding visitors.

The longest of these should roll in straight, without being tilted or turned, and that sets how deep the car is and how wide the doorway. A generous doorway also saves time at every floor, because two guests with bags can pass each other.

Look at the corridor outside the lift too. Every floor needs enough clear floor in front of the doors for a trolley to swing round. Where the lift opens directly on to a tight passage, staff lose time no matter how big the car is.

Silence after midnight, steel that still looks new

Guests rarely notice a good lift. They notice a noisy one at midnight. Three choices keep the ride quiet:

  • V3F drive. Acceleration and braking are ramped, so there is none of the jerk and hum of older controls. Power use is lower as well.
  • Machine position. Keep the machine and the controller away from bedroom walls. If the roof is used for a restaurant, a machine-room-less layout frees that space.
  • Door settings. Doors that close firmly but softly, with a light curtain so they never bump a guest or a suitcase.

Choose finishes by how the car will be cleaned. Hairline stainless steel hides fingerprints better than mirror steel. A stone or textured floor copes with wheeled bags. Bhagalpur sits on the Ganga and the monsoon months are humid, so we advise against finishes that swell or peel with damp. If housekeeping must borrow the guest lift early in the morning, order it with hooks for protective wall pads.

Glass in the lobby: showpiece or headache?

A glass capsule elevator puts the lift on show instead of hiding it behind a wall. It suits a hotel that has something to show: a double-height reception, an atrium or a view over a lawn used for functions. Lobby capsules typically carry 6 to 10 persons.

Not every hotel should have one. The building must be able to carry the structure, the glass has to be cleaned often, and a shaft on the sunny side needs shading or ventilation. Expect a higher price than for an enclosed car of equal capacity. A common answer is one capsule for guests and a plain lift for service. We weigh the two for hotel owners in a separate article on capsule elevators for hotels and malls.

If the lift stops at 2 a.m.

A hotel never closes, so the plan for a stopped lift has to work at night with only a few staff on duty.

  1. Automatic rescue device (ARD). When the supply fails, this battery unit drives the car to the closest landing and releases the doors. That is rescue only. To keep the lift working through a long cut, connect it to the hotel generator.
  2. Intercom to a desk that is always staffed. In a hotel that means reception, not an office that is locked at night.
  3. A simple night procedure. Reassure the guest, call our 24/7 line, leave the doors alone. We go through this with your staff at handover.
  4. A maintenance contract. Planned servicing finds weak batteries and worn door parts before a guest does. See our lift AMC plans.

Our technicians work from the Bhagalpur branch, so breakdown calls are handled by a team in the city, not one travelling from Patna.

Why two hotels of the same height get different quotes

There is no list price for a hotel elevator. One property wants a single 8-person car with a steel finish. Its neighbour wants a larger car, wider doors, a capsule in the lobby and a service lift behind the kitchen. The figure moves with the number of stops, capacity and speed, door type and width, cabin finish, any glass, and the civil or structural work an existing building needs. After a free site survey we give you an itemised quote that states what is included and what is left to your contractor.

Standards, registration and insurance

A hotel lift carries the public, so its paperwork deserves the same care as any other licence the hotel holds. New lifts must follow IS 17900, which BIS made mandatory for new installations from 22 December 2025. Under that standard, particular stress is laid on ARD and on two protections: unintended car movement and ascending car overspeed. In Bihar, the Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024 brings in registration, inspections, mandatory maintenance and third-party insurance. Please confirm what is currently notified with the local authority before you finalise the project. We supply the technical documents for the lift.

Working back from the wedding months

If the lift must be running before the wedding months, begin talks early. In an existing hotel the shaft usually takes longer than the lift. The order of work is: site survey; shaft, pit and headroom settled with your architect; supply; installation, checked stage by stage; safety tests carried out with you watching; and training for your front-desk and night staff. Our hospitality clients include Kashi Residency Hotel in Varanasi and Samridhi Hotel & Resorts in Sasaram. In Bhagalpur, Mountain Venture Pvt. Ltd. is a client.

Our hotel in Bhagalpur has room for only one shaft. Should it be a guest lift or a service lift?

Make it a guest lift, a size larger than guest numbers alone would suggest, with a hard floor and hooks for wall pads during housekeeping hours. Then move plates and food by a kitchen dumbwaiter, which needs only a small opening. Both ideas are checked against your floor plan when we visit.

The banquet hall is on our top floor. How big must the lift be?

Size it for the hall, not for the bedrooms. A function that fills and empties in one go usually calls for a car of 13 to 16 persons, or two lifts where the plot allows. These are typical figures only. Most guests will still walk, so the staircase should be wide and well lit.

Our kitchen is in the basement and the restaurant is two floors above. Must waiters use the guest lift?

No. A food dumbwaiter between the kitchen pass and a service pantry is made for exactly this. A restaurant-size unit typically takes 50 to 100 kg at counter height, which is several stacked trays. Dirty plates come down the same way, and the guest lift stays free of food smells.

Two of our rooms share a wall with the lift shaft. Will guests complain about noise?

They need not. With a V3F drive the machine runs quietly. What guests usually hear is a door closing hard or equipment bolted to the bedroom wall. Show us which rooms adjoin the shaft and we will plan the fixings and door settings around them.

Can a lift be added while the hotel stays open to guests?

In most cases, yes, in stages. Breaking and drilling are done first during agreed hours, the work zone is screened from guest corridors, and the lift installation follows. Expect to keep a few rooms beside the shaft unsold for part of the job.

Our front desk is unattended for part of the night. Where should the lift intercom ring?

At whichever point always has a person: the night guard's post or the duty manager's room. An intercom that rings at an empty desk is no help to a guest in a stopped car. Keep our 24/7 number, +91 84489 44342, at the same spot, and instruct staff never to prise the doors open.
