A hydraulic lift in Sasaram is often the simplest way to add a lift to a low building that was never designed for one. Instead of ropes, a counterweight and a machine room on the roof, it uses an oil-driven cylinder to push the car up and a controlled valve to let it down. That makes it a strong, practical choice for godowns, market shops with storage upstairs, small workshops, garages and other buildings of two to four levels.
Eldeal Engineers supplies, installs and services hydraulic lifts from our corporate office on Old G.T. Road, Sasaram. Because we are based in the town, the same team can survey your site, fit the lift and come back for routine oil and seal checks.
Where hydraulic lifts make sense in Sasaram
Much of Sasaram's trade still runs from compact two- and three-storey buildings: wholesale shops, hardware and cement dealers, grain traders, furniture sellers and small manufacturing units. Owners in these buildings usually need to move heavy stock over a short height, not people over many floors. That is exactly the job hydraulic drives do well.
- Godowns with a first floor or mezzanine for sacks, cartons and bagged goods.
- Shops in the bazaar that keep reserve stock on the floor above the counter.
- Workshops and small units moving raw material and finished goods between two or three levels.
- Car lifts for home garages where a ramp would take too much of the plot. See our car elevator page.
- Some low-rise home lifts, where a hydraulic drive can help in houses with limited headroom. Compare options on our home lift in Sasaram page.
Benefits of a hydraulic drive
No roof-top machine room
The power unit, a motor, pump and oil tank, sits in a small room or cabinet at the lowest level beside the shaft. Nothing needs to be built on the terrace, which suits older buildings and those with water tanks on the roof.
Strong lifting in a small package
A hydraulic cylinder can lift heavy loads with a compact machine. Goods lifts of 500 kg to over 2000 kg are common, depending on your loads.
Gentle, controlled lowering
The car comes down under its own weight through a flow-control valve, so a full load of sacks or glass is lowered smoothly.
Less load on walls
On direct-acting designs, much of the weight is carried down through the cylinder to the pit, rather than hung from the top of the building.
Limits you should know
A hydraulic lift is not the answer for every building, and we will tell you when it is not.
- It is best for short travel, usually up to about four stops.
- It is slower than a traction lift, typically around 0.15 to 0.5 m/s, which is fine for goods but tiresome for busy passenger traffic.
- It uses more energy on the upward trip than a modern V3F traction lift of the same size.
- Oil temperature matters. Sasaram's hot summers can thin the oil, so the power unit room must be ventilated.
For offices, hotels and apartment buildings with more floors, a traction commercial lift is usually the better fit. Our hydraulic vs traction guide compares the two in detail.
Cost factors for a hydraulic lift in Sasaram
We do not publish a single price, because hydraulic lifts vary widely. These are the factors that move the quote:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Rated load and platform size | Bigger loads need a larger cylinder, stronger car frame and bigger power unit. |
| Number of stops and travel | Longer travel may need an indirect (roped) arrangement. |
| Door type | Collapsible gates cost less than swing doors or automatic doors. |
| Pit and civil work | Digging, reinforcing and waterproofing the pit can be a large share of the job. |
| Power supply | The pump motor needs a suitable three-phase connection. |
| Car finish | Chequered plate floor for goods, or a finished cabin for home and car lifts. |
Site conditions we check
Many plots in and around Sasaram see water collect during the monsoon, so a hydraulic pit must be properly waterproofed and, where needed, given a sump. We also look at the ground floor slab where the cylinder will sit, the route for oil pipes from the power unit, ventilation for the power unit room, and the loading area in front of each landing. On a shop in a crowded market lane, we plan how material will reach the site and where it will be stored during installation.
For an existing building, the shaft is often created by cutting an opening through each slab and building a steel or masonry enclosure around it. A structural engineer should confirm the slab cutting and any extra beams. We share the pit size, loads and opening dimensions early, so your civil contractor can finish their part before our installation team arrives.
Safety and Bihar's lift rules
Standard safety items include a rupture valve to stop sudden descent if a line fails, an emergency lowering valve for power cuts, door interlocks so the car moves only with landing doors shut, an overload sensor with voice prompt, and an alarm and emergency light. New lifts fall under IS 17900, mandatory from 22 December 2025 as per BIS. The Bihar Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024, passed on 2 August 2024, covers registration, inspection, maintenance and insurance. Please confirm what applies to your building with the local authority.
How the project runs, and after
We start with a free site survey and a look at the loads you actually move. You then receive a clear design and written quote. After supply, our team installs the cylinder, rails, car and doors with an inspection at each stage, then load-tests the lift before handover and shows your staff how to load it safely. Afterwards, oil level, seals, hoses and valves need regular checks; our lift maintenance in Sasaram covers them.
