Finding space for a lift in a Sasaram house
If you are still building
Tell your architect and contractor about the lift before the columns are finalised. We give exact shaft dimensions, pit depth and headroom for the model you choose. Keep the shaft away from the water tank and bathroom walls, and plan a dry pit. Monsoon water entering a lift pit is one of the most common problems we see in low-lying plots.
If the house is already built
- Staircase well: the open gap between flights can sometimes hold a compact car.
- Corner of a room: a shaft can be cut through the slabs if a structural engineer approves it.
- External shaft: a steel or masonry shaft built against a side or rear wall, with openings into each floor. This often avoids disturbing living spaces.
Pit depth and top-floor headroom usually decide the type of lift, so these are the first things our engineer measures.
Home lift cost in Sasaram: what changes the price
A common market range quoted for home lifts in India in 2026 is roughly ₹4.5 lakh to ₹18 lakh or more. This is an indicative range only. Two houses on the same street can get very different quotations because of:
- Lift type: traction, hydraulic or glass.
- Number of stops: a lift to the terrace adds one more stop, with its own door and wiring.
- Car size: a wheelchair-sized car needs more material and a bigger shaft.
- Doors: manual swing doors cost less than automatic sliding doors.

As per BIS, IS 17900 became mandatory for new lift installations from 22 December 2025, replacing the older home-lift code IS 15259. In Bihar, the Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024 brings in registration, inspections and regular maintenance for lifts. Please check with the local authority how the current rules apply to a private house.
Living with a home lift: running and upkeep
Families often worry that a lift will bring big electricity bills and constant repairs. In practice, a home lift makes only a few trips a day, and a V3F drive draws power mainly while the car is moving. The bigger costs over the years come from neglect, not from use. A few habits keep it trouble-free:
- Keep the pit and the area around the power unit or controller dry and free of stored items.
- Do not let children play with the buttons or hold the door open for long periods.
- Note any new noise, jerk or door problem and tell the technician on the next visit.
- Keep the service schedule even if the lift seems fine. Home lifts usually need fewer visits than busy building lifts, and our lift maintenance team can suggest a suitable frequency.
