Dumbwaiter Lift in Sasaram: Uses in Hotels, Restaurants & Beyond

Kitchen and service dumbwaiters for hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, nursing homes and shops in Sasaram. Small shaft, big saving in stair trips.

In most Sasaram hotels and restaurants, the kitchen and the guests are on different floors. Someone has to carry every plate up and every stack of dirty dishes back down, often on a steep, narrow staircase. A dumbwaiter lift in Sasaram takes that job off your staff. It is a small, goods-only service lift that moves trays, food, linen, medicines, files or small stock between floors at the press of a button.

Eldeal Engineers supplies, installs and maintains dumbwaiters from its corporate office on Old G.T. Road, Sasaram. Our engineers visit your kitchen or service area, measure the space, look at how your staff work, and suggest a unit that fits your routine rather than a standard catalogue box.

Where a dumbwaiter lift in Sasaram earns its place

Hotels with room service and rooftop dining

Hotels serving travellers on the Grand Trunk Road often have a ground-floor kitchen, rooms on three or four floors, and sometimes a terrace restaurant. A dumbwaiter sends breakfast trays and room-service orders up without taking the guest lift out of use. Among our hospitality clients is Samridhi Hotel & Resorts in Sasaram. The principle is simple: the guest lift should be kept for guests.

Restaurants with an upstairs family hall

Many restaurants in the town keep the ground floor for quick service and parcel orders, with a family dining hall above. Waiters carrying full trays up the stairs are slow, tired by evening, and one slip away from an accident. A counter-height dumbwaiter placed next to the kitchen pass makes the upstairs hall as quick to serve as the ground floor.

Banquet and marriage halls

During the wedding season, a hall may serve hundreds of plates in a single evening. Food goes up, used plates and glasses come down, and both need to move fast. Halls with a busy calendar sometimes plan two units, one for outgoing food and one for returns, so clean and dirty never share a car.

Sweet shops and bakeries

Where sweets or bakery items are made on one floor and sold on another, a dumbwaiter carries trays straight from the production area to the counter, keeping the stairs clear for staff.

Nursing homes, clinics and offices

In a nursing home, meal trays, linen and pharmacy boxes can travel by dumbwaiter so that the stretcher lift stays free for patients. Our page on the hospital lift in Sasaram covers the patient side. Offices, banks and schools also use small units for files and records.

Sizes and loading options

A dumbwaiter is chosen by what goes inside it. The figures below are typical industry ranges and are indicative only; we confirm the size after measuring your trays, vessels or boxes.

SettingTypical loadTypical capacityLoading height
Home, small office, clinicTrays, files, laundry baskets25–50 kgCounter height
Restaurant or hotel kitchenStacked trays, serving dishes, handis50–100 kgCounter height
Banquet hall, nursing homeCrates of plates, linen bags, meal trays100–150 kgCounter or floor level
Shop or small godownBoxes, a small hand trolley150–250 kgFloor level

Speeds of about 0.2 to 0.5 m/s are usual. That sounds slow, but most dumbwaiters travel only one or two floors, so each trip takes seconds.

Counter height or floor level?

Counter-height (hatch) loading puts the car floor at waist level, so staff slide trays in without bending. It suits kitchens and pantries. Floor-level loading lets you roll a small trolley straight in, which suits linen, stock and heavier crates, but it needs a slightly deeper pit.

Doors and car

Vertical bi-parting shutters save space in a busy kitchen because nothing swings out into the walkway. Swing doors or rolling shutters suit other layouts. For food and hospital use we recommend a stainless steel car, which is easy to wipe down; painted steel is fine for files and stock. A through car, with doors on two sides, helps where loading and unloading happen on opposite sides of a wall.

Kitchen realities we plan for

A restaurant kitchen is hot, steamy and greasy, and a dumbwaiter placed in the wrong spot will show it within months. During the survey we look at:

  • Distance from the tandoor and cooking range. Heat and oily fumes build up on door tracks and push buttons. A position near the pass, not beside the burners, keeps the unit cleaner and working longer.
  • Wash-down habits. Kitchens are often washed with plenty of water. Door sills and landing controls should be placed and protected so water does not run into the shaft.
  • Dust at the upper landing. Rooftop restaurants and terrace halls collect dust. A closed landing door and a simple wipe-down routine keep the car hygienic.
  • Clear space at each landing. Staff need room to unload without blocking the passage.

Safety on a goods-only lift

A dumbwaiter must never carry people, and we design it so that misuse is hard. The car moves only when every landing door is closed and locked, and a door can open only when the car is at that floor. An overload check stops the unit if too much is stacked inside. Every landing gets a clear "goods only" sign, and we brief your kitchen and housekeeping staff at handover. Because the Bihar Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024 brings registration, inspection and maintenance duties for lifts, please check with the local authority how the current rules apply to a service lift in your building.

What decides the cost

A dumbwaiter costs much less than a passenger or goods lift, but prices still vary. The main drivers are capacity and car size, the number of floors served, stainless steel or painted car, door type, counter or floor loading, and the civil work to create the shaft and slab openings. We give a written, itemised quote after a free site survey. If your needs are bigger than a dumbwaiter can handle, our goods lift in Sasaram page explains the next step up.

From survey to daily service

  1. Survey: we measure the space and your largest tray, vessel or box, and note where staff load and unload.
  2. Design and quote: car size, loading height, doors and material, confirmed in writing.
  3. Civil work: your contractor forms the shaft and openings to our drawing.
  4. Installation and testing: our team installs the unit with checks at each stage and tests every door lock.
  5. Handover: a short briefing on safe loading and daily cleaning.
  6. Upkeep: a dumbwaiter runs many short trips a day, so doors, locks and ropes need regular attention. Our lift maintenance visits cover this.

Our restaurant kitchen is on the ground floor and the family dining hall is upstairs. Is a dumbwaiter enough, or do we need a goods lift?

If you only need to send plates, trays, dishes and small containers, a dumbwaiter is the right tool. It needs far less space and costs much less than a goods lift. If staff must push a loaded trolley or carry gas cylinders, rice sacks or large vessels between floors, you are looking at a goods lift instead. We help you decide at the survey.

Can a dumbwaiter carry a big handi or a tray of hot food safely?

Yes, provided it fits the car and stays within the rated load. We size the car and the shelf spacing around your largest vessel or tray stack. A stainless steel car with a lip at the front edge helps stop pots sliding during the trip.

We are building a banquet hall with the kitchen on the ground floor and the hall on the first and second floors. How many dumbwaiters should we plan?

It depends on how many plates you serve at peak and whether food and used dishes travel in the same car. Many halls manage with one well-sized unit, while larger venues keep a separate unit for dirty dishes so they never meet the outgoing food. Tell us your peak covers and we will suggest a layout.

Can a dumbwaiter be fitted into a restaurant that is already running?

Usually yes. The shaft is small and needs little or no pit, so it can often go in a corner of the kitchen or behind the service counter. Cutting openings in the slabs needs a structural check, and we plan noisy work for your quieter hours.

Is it allowed for a staff member to ride in the dumbwaiter to save time?

Never. A dumbwaiter is built only for goods. The car is small, it has no passenger safety equipment, and the controls are outside the car. We fix goods-only signs at every landing and brief your staff at handover.

Who services the dumbwaiter if a door stops locking during a busy function?

Our team works from the corporate office on Old G.T. Road, Sasaram, and our support line runs 24/7. Switch the unit off, keep the doors shut and call us. Do not force a door or bypass a lock to finish the evening.
