Home Lift Price in Bihar: Types, Installation & Cost Factors
Indicative home lift prices in Bihar by type, what each extra stop adds, retrofit costs in existing houses, backup and yearly maintenance explained.
- Home lifts in Bihar are commonly quoted at roughly ₹4.5 lakh to ₹18 lakh+; the type of lift sets the starting band.
- Compact and hydraulic home lifts usually sit lower in the range; MRL traction and screw-driven lifts in the middle; pneumatic (vacuum) lifts at the top.
- Each extra stop adds a landing door, more rail and wiring, and more installation time, so count the terrace before you ask for a quote.
- In an existing house, the shaft, pit and structural check can cost as much as the finish choices, so budget for them separately.
- ARD is essential in Bihar; a generator or inverter to keep the lift running is an extra, and AMC is a yearly cost after the warranty.
What is the home lift price in Bihar? In 2026 the market commonly quotes roughly ₹4.5 lakh to ₹18 lakh or more for a home lift with two to four stops. The type of lift sets the starting band: compact and hydraulic lifts usually sit lower, MRL traction and screw-driven lifts in the middle, and pneumatic (vacuum) lifts at the top. The number of stops, the shaft and civil work in your house, the doors and the finish then decide the final figure. All prices here are indicative, not quotations.
This post looks only at home lifts, and only at cost. If you are still deciding whether a home lift suits your house and how to plan one, start with our home lift buying guide. If you need prices for passenger, hospital, goods or car lifts as well, see our lift cost in Bihar overview.
Home Lift Price in Bihar by Type
The table below compares the five home lift types families in Bihar most often ask about. The bands are indicative market ranges for supply and installation of a two- to three-stop lift. They overlap because a well-specified lift of one type can cost more than a basic lift of another. They exclude civil work, the electrical line up to the controller, generator backup and taxes unless your quote says otherwise.
| Home lift type | How it works | Indicative band | Where it fits best |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact home lift | Small car, usually traction or hydraulic, often in a steel structure | Roughly ₹4.5 lakh to ₹8 lakh | G+1 houses, one or two users, tight space |
| Hydraulic home lift | Oil pump and cylinder push the car up | Roughly ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh | Low-rise houses where only a shallow pit is possible |
| MRL traction home lift | Compact gearless machine inside the shaft, V3F drive | Roughly ₹7 lakh to ₹15 lakh | New bungalows and G+2 to G+3 houses |
| Screw-driven home lift | Motor turns a long screw; the car climbs it | Roughly ₹8 lakh to ₹15 lakh | Retrofits with very little pit or headroom |
| Pneumatic (vacuum) lift | Air pressure moves a small car inside a round tube | Roughly ₹12 lakh to ₹18 lakh+ | Showpiece installations with almost no civil work |
Use these bands to shortlist, not to budget. Two houses on the same street can get very different quotes for the same lift type once the site is measured.
Compact home lift
A compact lift keeps the car small, often for two or three people, and the price low. It suits a family where one elderly parent needs to reach the first floor. The trade-off is space: a wheelchair with a helper may not fit. If that is likely in future, move up a size now.
Hydraulic home lift
Hydraulic lifts need a shallow pit and no overhead machine, which helps in older Bihar houses with low top-floor roofs. They need a small pump unit near the shaft. They use more power on the way up and need oil and seal checks. Our comparison of hydraulic vs traction elevators explains the running differences.
MRL traction home lift
For most new bungalows this is the balanced choice. A gearless machine with a V3F drive gives a smooth ride and good energy use, and there is no machine room to build. It needs a moderate pit and enough headroom, so it is easiest when planned during construction.
Screw-driven home lift
Screw-driven lifts work with a very small pit and low headroom, which makes them useful in tight retrofits. They are slower than traction lifts. Spares and service skills are less common, so ask who will maintain it locally before you buy.
Pneumatic (vacuum) lift
A vacuum lift sits in a self-supporting tube and needs almost no pit or shaft work. That saves civil cost, but the equipment is costly, the car is small and some models do not take a wheelchair. It is a design choice more than a budget one.
What Each Extra Stop Adds
After the lift type, the number of stops is the next big driver. Every extra landing adds:
- A landing door and frame. Automatic sliding doors cost more than manual swing doors, and you pay for them at every floor.
- More guide rail, wiring and travelling cable for the extra height.
- A floor opening in the slab if the house was not built with a shaft.
- More installation and testing time.
- Finish at the landing. Glass or premium door finishes multiply with each stop.
Many Bihar houses have a terrace used for drying clothes, water tanks or family functions. If you want the lift to reach it, include that stop in the first quote. Adding a stop later means reopening the shaft top, which costs far more.
Retrofitting a Home Lift in an Existing House
Most home lift enquiries in Bihar come from houses built floor by floor over the years, with no space kept for a lift. Retrofitting is possible in many of them, but the building work can move the price as much as the lift type does.
Shaft options and their cost impact
| Retrofit route | What it involves | Cost impact |
|---|---|---|
| Steel structure inside a stairwell or courtyard | Self-supporting frame with panels or glass; slabs mostly untouched | Higher equipment cost, lower civil cost and disruption |
| Steel structure on an outside wall | Frame outside the house, openings cut in the wall at each floor | Adds foundation and weather protection; keeps inside space free |
| New brick or RCC shaft inside | Openings cut through each slab, new shaft walls built | Lower equipment cost but more civil work, time and dust |
Structural check
Before any slab is cut or a frame is fixed to a wall, a structural engineer should check the building. Older load-bearing houses and extra floors added later need particular care. The check itself is a small cost; skipping it can be very expensive.
Pit and waterproofing
Many towns in Bihar see waterlogging in the monsoon. A lift pit below ground level must be waterproofed, and in some areas a raised ground-floor landing or a sump is needed. Lift types that need a shallow pit, such as hydraulic and screw-driven lifts, can reduce this cost.
Power Supply, ARD and Backup Costs
Power cuts are a real planning issue across Bihar. Budget for three separate items:
- A dedicated electrical line of the right rating with proper earthing, run to the lift controller. This is usually your electrician's scope, so ask whether the quote includes it.
- ARD (automatic rescue device). It brings the car to the nearest floor and opens the doors when the power fails. We fit it as standard on our lifts, and families should treat it as essential.
- Generator or inverter backup, if you want to keep using the lift during outages. This is optional and sized to the lift load. A V3F drive lowers starting current, so the backup can often be smaller.
Safety standards also shape what goes into the price. According to BIS, IS 17900, harmonised with EN 81-20 and EN 81-50, became mandatory for new installations from 22 December 2025, replacing older codes such as IS 15259, which covered home lifts. It emphasises UCMP, ACOP and ARD. Ask every supplier in writing how their home lift complies, and confirm current rules with BIS or your local authority.
Maintenance and Ownership Costs
The purchase price is only part of what a home lift costs. Plan for:
- AMC after the warranty. A non-comprehensive AMC covers regular servicing with parts billed when needed; a comprehensive AMC costs more per year but covers most parts. Our lift AMC service page explains what each visit covers.
- Type-specific upkeep. Hydraulic lifts need oil and seal checks. Traction lifts need rope or belt, brake and door checks. Screw and vacuum lifts need service skills that fewer technicians have.
- Electricity. A home lift used a few times a day adds little to the bill.
- Compliance. The Bihar Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024, passed by the Bihar Assembly on 2 August 2024, provides for registration, inspections, mandatory maintenance and third-party insurance. Check with the local authority how the notified rules apply to private home lifts and budget for any fees or premiums.
A Simple Way to Estimate Your Home Lift Budget
- Pick the likely lift type from the table, based on your pit, headroom and space.
- Count the stops, including the terrace if you will use it.
- Choose doors: automatic for elderly or wheelchair users, manual to save cost.
- Choose a finish: stainless steel hairline is durable; glass and mirror cost more.
- Add the retrofit route and civil work if the house has no shaft.
- Add electrical work, ARD and any generator or inverter.
- Add at least five years of AMC to compare quotes fairly.
Then book a survey to turn the estimate into a firm figure. Our home lift page shows the configurations we install, and families near Rohtas can see our home lift service in Sasaram.
