Most lift problems in a new building begin long before the lift arrives. A shaft built a few centimetres too narrow, a pit that floods, or a top floor without enough headroom can hold up a project for weeks. This guide to lift installation in Dehri-on-Sone explains how to prepare your site, what our team does on it and how the work is checked before you ride the lift.
Eldeal Engineers installs passenger, home, hospital and goods lifts across the town, from new apartment blocks to older family houses near Dalmianagar. Dehri-on-Sone is served by our Sasaram corporate office team on Old G.T. Road, in the same district, and the same team maintains the lift after handover.
Lift installation in Dehri starts on the drawing board
The best time to call a lift installer is before the shaft is built. At that stage, a change costs nothing but a revised drawing. After the concrete sets, the same change means breaking walls. During a free survey, our engineer:
- studies your plans or measures the existing building;
- asks how many people or how much load the lift must carry, and how often;
- recommends a lift type, capacity and door arrangement;
- provides a drawing with shaft, pit, headroom and opening sizes for your contractor.
If you are still weighing up designs, our guide on MRL vs machine-room elevators explains the trade-offs in space and access.
Matching the lift to the building
The installation plan depends on which lift you choose, so settle this first. An apartment block in Dehri-on-Sone usually needs a passenger elevator sized for the number of flats. A clinic needs a car long enough for a stretcher. A shop or godown with stock upstairs needs a goods lift rated for the heaviest load it will realistically carry, not the average one. A family house often suits a compact home lift. Each type has different shaft, pit and power needs, and a different installation sequence. Choosing the lift type before construction also lets your architect place the shaft where it serves every floor without wasting space.
Who does what: builder and lift installer
Confusion over responsibilities causes more site delays than anything else. This is how the work is usually divided on our projects:
| Item | Your builder or contractor | Eldeal Engineers |
|---|---|---|
| Lift shaft walls, plumb and to drawing size | Builds | Provides drawing, checks before installation |
| Pit, waterproofed and dry | Builds | Checks depth and dryness |
| Machine room or top-floor headroom | Builds | Specifies size and hook or beam position |
| Door openings at each floor | Leaves openings, finishes after | Fits door frames and landing doors |
| Electrical supply to the controller | Arranges connection and wiring to the point | Specifies rating, wires the lift itself |
| Rails, car, machine, ropes or belts, controller | — | Supplies and installs |
| Safety devices, ARD, testing | — | Installs, tests and demonstrates |
We confirm this split in writing in every quote, so nobody is surprised on site.
Common site issues we check for in Dehri-on-Sone
- Water in the pit. Being near the Sone and exposed to heavy monsoon rain, some plots have a high water table or poor drainage. A pit must be properly waterproofed before any equipment goes in.
- Shaft out of plumb. Brick shafts in particular can lean or bulge. We measure at several heights before installing rails.
- Short headroom. Many buildings add a floor later and forget the lift overrun. We check the top clearance early.
- Power supply. A new three-phase connection can take time to arrange. Apply early so the lift is not ready before the power is.
Installation stages and inspections
Once the site is ready, our team follows a fixed sequence with an inspection at each stage. Nothing moves to the next step until the previous one is checked.
- Site handover check: shaft size, plumb, pit and openings measured against the drawing.
- Rails and brackets: fixed and aligned so the car runs straight and quietly.
- Machine and controller: installed with a V3F (VVVF) drive for smooth, energy-efficient running.
- Car and counterweight: assembled in the shaft, ropes or belts fitted and tensioned.
- Doors: landing and car doors fitted, with a light-curtain sensor for passenger protection.
- Safety devices: automatic rescue device (ARD), overload sensor with voice prompt, intercom, alarm and emergency light.
- Testing: levelling, door timing, overload, rescue operation and brake checks.
- Handover: demonstration and training for the owner or building staff.

Installing a lift in an existing Dehri building
Many buildings in Dehri-on-Sone were built without a lift and now need one. That is possible in a lot of cases. The choices are usually a shaft cut through the floor slabs, a steel or concrete structure built against an outside wall, or a compact lift fitted in the stairwell. Each option needs a structural check. For houses, our article on space required for a home lift helps you estimate early whether a lift can fit.
Standards and approvals
New lift installations in India now follow IS 17900, which BIS made mandatory from 22 December 2025. It is harmonised with EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 and adds protections such as unintended car movement protection and ascending car overspeed protection. For taller buildings, the National Building Code 2016, Part 8 Section 5, sets building-side requirements such as fire lifts. In Bihar, the Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024, passed by the Assembly on 2 August 2024, deals with registration, inspection and maintenance. Please check current notifications with the local authority before starting work.
After installation
A new lift should be checked regularly from its first month. We offer maintenance and AMC plans handled by the same Sasaram team, with 24/7 support for breakdowns. If you want to know more about us before you start, see our lift company in Dehri-on-Sone page.
